皆さんは、「世界を止める」という表現の元が誰なのか知ってますよね……。

カルロス・カスタネダです。内なる対話をオフにすることです…。
「世界を止める」という状態を達成するには、最小限の必要条件が二つあります。理解することと、すでに自分が知っていることに経験を関連づけることで理解する方法についての議論を思い出してください。これは、あなたが自分の世界を維持させる一つの方法です。どんなに新しい入力も、特に中枢神経系と意識に達する前において、自分がすでに知っていることに再コード化される場合、ホメオスタシスのレベルに混乱が起こらない一方で、他方においては新しいことを何も学ばないことになります。ですから、世界について言葉で説明し続けることは、自分がすでに知っている世界を維持、分類し、再コード化する一つの方法です。そして二つ目は中心視野です。ご存知のように、網膜には1億6千万の錐体細胞と桿状細胞があります。視神経にはそれよりはるかに少ない数の経路があります。ここで視神経を視交叉まで移動し、さらに各レベル、各シナプスまで移動していくにつれて、還元主義的なメカニズムが用いられていきます。変換、変換、変換、変換…。
皆さんは私を見ていません。自分の後頭葉で生じている出来事を見ているのです。

There are two minimum requirements to achieving the "stopping the world" state. Remember the discussion about understanding and how you understand by relating experience to what you already know? That's one way you sustain your world. If every new input is recodedーespecially before reaching the central nervous system and consciousnessーinto something you already know, there's no disturbance of the homeostatic levels on the one hand and on the other hand, you don't learn anything new. So ongoing verbal description of the world is one way that you sustain the world that you already know, categorize it, and recode it. The second thing is foveal vision. You know, there are 160,000,000 cones and rods in the retina.There are magnitudes less tracks in the optic nerve. And as you move back in the optic nerve to the optic chiasma and then further back, at each level, at each synapse, there's a reductionistic mechanism being employed.
